The Royal Canadian College of Organists held its 4-day national Convention in Kingston, Ontario this July. Concerts were given by some of the leading cathedral organists in Canada, Britain and Germany.
The RCCO is the oldest music college in Canada, founded in 1909. During this Convention, the College Convocation was held and awards were given to members who had passed examination and performance standards in organ work-some of whom are members of the Calgary RCCO chapter.
This Convocation also saw the Installation of new Officers – including that of Vice-President of the RCCO. This is an elected voluntary position—and it is one in which organists, choir directors and lovers of the organ and organ music from across Canada were asked to choose by mailed election their choice from presented candidates.
We are pleased to report that Chellan Hoffman, our very own Director of Music at Knox United Church and the RCCO Calgary Chapter Executive member was chosen by election and installed as the new co-vice-president of the national RCCO for 2016-2018.
It comes as no surprise that Chellan is known by many organists in Canada as a talented organist, superb colleague, and an insightful friend. Her installation to the RCCO National Executive is in keeping with her wonderful professional and personal qualities. We are so very fortunate to have her talents shared with us at Knox as she adds to her very busy schedule the co-Vice-president position with the National RCCO.
Please join us in congratulating Chellan in her new position.
