Lenten Reflection for February 26

Scripture: Psalm 22:23-31

For our loving Creator does not turn away from the afflicted,
And does not hide from them;
But their cries are heard, their prayers rise up to heaven.

“Psalms for Praying” by Nan C. Merrill

For me, this is a powerful reminder that we are never truly alone. We may have lived through times or participated in things that leave us feeling unworthy of love, believing that we deserve to be alone and have our cries unheard. Society’s current over reliance on social media can often fuel that feeling of judgement.

The above interpretation of verse 24 reminds us that God does not and will not turn away from us—ever. God is with us in our joys and in our sorrows; in our dreaming and in our torment; when we feel solid in our being and when we feel less than worthy of being heard and loved.

May you, on this day and every day, know in the deepest part of your being that you are never alone. God hears your prayers—the good, the bad and the indifferent.

Prayer

Loving Creator, I send my prayer to you. Hear my cry. May it rise up to heaven. I know that you will not turn away from me—ever. I know this in the deepest part of my being. AMEN
