The Healing Touch group at Knox
Definition: “Healing Touch is an energy therapy in which practitioners consciously use their hands in a heart-centered and intentional way to support and facilitate physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and healing. . . . Touch is used to influence the human energy system. . . . The goal of Healing Touch is to restore harmony and balance in the energy system, placing the client in a position to self-heal. Healing Touch complements conventional health care and is used in collaboration with other approaches to health and healing.” Excerpts from Healing Touch Level Notebook
Healing Touch at Knox: Healing Touch was introduced to Knox in 1997, after one of our ministers, encountered healing touch training at Naramata Centre. Some of our members have participated for 12 to 14 years, while others have joined after taking the required Level 1 course more recently. Our twice-monthly meetings are times of nurture, learning, and activity planning.
Our major focus is giving treatments which are usually booked before or after Sunday services. A full treatment on a massage table takes 30 to 40 minutes; short sessions for a client seated in a chair take about 10 minutes. We visit homes and hospitals; treatments given before and after surgery can reduce recovery time. It also promotes a sense of serenity and well-being. Gladys Lane, a long-time Knox member now entering her 100th year, described receiving a treatment this way, “It is like being inside a prayer”.
Members of the Healing Touch Ministry count it a privilege to be able to serve the congregation in this way.
To book an appointment contact the Knox church office email@example.com and your request will be passed on to us.
To join our group, take a Level 1 course. You will be glad you did.

Reclaiming our Judeo-Christian roots in Healing Touch and reconnecting with Jesus’ ministry, Knox United Church has a ministry offering healing touch to the congregation.
Knox United Church Healing touch team is grounded in the Naramata Centre healing Pathway program. All practitioners have different levels of competency in this program.
The goal of the program is to assist congregations in developing and sustaining a healing ministry. The pathway, while training individuals (using modern methods and techniques) is centered and grounded in the life and structure of the congregation.
We follow ethical principles and values that reflect the life of Jesus as responsible members of our community, the spiritual foundation for our work.
We believe that healing is a process guided by God to restore balance and wholeness of body, mind and spirit, not only within the individual, but also within relationships, community and creation.
To serve as an instrument of healing is an honor and a privilege and it is the responsibility of the community and individuals to act as a “healing presence” with integrity and accountability.
Persons participating in healing touch give consent to treatments that connect with the human energy field which complements regular health care.
The Healing Touch team participates regularly in:
- healing services where they participate in the laying on of hands and anointing with oil rituals of healing
- offering healing touch for those in Labyrinth Healing workshops
- offering regular treatments to the congregation (by appointment only)
The Healing Touch team is now offering treatments to members of the congregation on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, before and after church service.
If you have any questions or would like to book an appointment for treatment, please email the team at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the main office at (403) 269-8382
